Purpose:
The Metromix Executive Producer / Editor-in-Chief is responsible for directing and implementing the content vision for a national network of local entertainment websites that provide entertainment content targeted at 21-34 year olds.
The Executive Producer (EP) will manage internal content production staff and external content sources to continuously refine content for the site that will grow audience in a sustainable manner.
The EP will work closely with and provide leadership for the content staff of our local affiliate partners.
The EP will drive the ongoing development of the Metromix websites from a content perspective by working closely with the CEO, Marketing & Development Director, Product Manager, and other key staff members on new product development and audience growth initiatives.
The content featured on the Metromix sites includes local restaurants, bars/clubs, events, and music, along with national movies and television content. The sites also include extensive user-generated content that will be facilitated under the direction of the EP. Both producer-generated and user-generated content currently includes or will include text, photos, video and audio formats, and the EP will be responsible for developing the multimedia content strategy.
Success will be judged both by the number of unique visitors attracted to the site; the engagement of that audience as measured by pageviews per visit and monthly frequency of visits as well as overall pageviews; the demographic makeup of the audience; and the reception to that audience by the advertising community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage a staff of centralized content producers and freelancers for national content areas including movies, television, and music, and manage the budget associated with this group.
Work closely with dedicated local content teams employed by affiliate partners (mainly newspapers and television stations) to ensure local content supports brand and audience growth initiatives, best practices get shared, and affiliate commitments are met. Recruit and manage supervising producers to assist in this effort.
Lead efforts to create robust database of entertainment listings in each local market prior to launch, and manage ongoing maintenance of databases to ensure Metromix listings are comprehensive for our target audience at all times.
Continuously augment and refine content guidelines including editorial voice, content standards and the ideal mix of content components (listings, features, round-ups, etc.). Evolve these guidelines as necessary based on consumer research and all forms of feedback, including pageview metrics and other evidence of usage and affinity and evolving consumer demands.
Have an in-depth understanding of MMX’s target audience and their web usage. Ensure that all content staff “get” the target audience, and that local staff understand the nuances of speaking to the target demo in their market. Collaborate with local content staff to develop the optimal local nuances of MMX content in their markets.
Provide editorial input to the product development and marketing creative processes. Help analyze and define improvements in functionality for the site and for brand extensions across other media formats.
Define a strategy for the role of text, multimedia and user-generated content on the site, and recruit team members to fulfill this vision. Establish short- and long-term content-development plans, including programs designed to increase audience size, engagement, revenue, and promotion of the brand.
Contribute to efforts to choose outside content providers, and ensure that vendor-provided content is up to standards on an ongoing basis.
Monitor, analyze and report what has and has not worked from a content perspective. Continually monitor established and emerging competitors.
Travel a significant amount to work with local teams in key markets and to work with fellow senior management in Chicago. The Metromix national content team is based in Los Angeles, and an LA base is desired for the EP role. A NY or Chicago base may be considered but will require extensive travel to LA.
Participate in the strategy and operating plan processes for Metromix under the direction of the CEO.
Demonstrate ethical business practices and exceptional integrity.
